General anchoring regulations in the Balearic Islands

We don’t want to bore you with laws and regulations, but it is interesting that you are aware of the presence of Posidonia oceanica on the coasts of the Balearic archipelago.

This marine plant is endemic to the Mediterranean and is listed under a Special Protection Regime. For this reason, there are regulated anchorage areas and prohibited anchorage areas in the Balearics.

In the regulated anchorage areas, the enjoyment of the marine environment is compatible with the ecological conservation of the seabed. Systems of fixed and low-environmental-impact buoys have been established in areas where there is greater pressure from boats on vulnerable seabeds.

These buoys are currently managed by the Ministry of Environment and Territory.
